The Salt Lick Cabaret is Deertrees’ cozy, intimate backstage space that opens up to a spacious deck and the Maine woods through large wooden doors that inspired the 1954 movie “White Christmas.” The cabaret space accommodates up to 60 patrons for its intimate performances. Salt Lick Café, run by the inimitable Barb Stauble, opens two hours before each event, offering beer, wine, canned cocktails, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks. This comfy destination is also home to Deertrees’ Art Gallery. Browse our gallery featuring local Maine artists. Raise a glass and step into a night where art, music, and community meet to launch the 90th Season in style. This festive gathering celebrates the local visual artists of the Deertrees Art Gallery, inviting guests to mingle, admire, and toast the creative spirit that fills these walls. Live entertainment by local favorite Terry Swett on guitar followed by pianist Robert Tardiff, with cabaret-style performances that offer playful previews of the exciting musical season ahead, all within the cozy charm of the Salt Lick Art Gallery. Adding to the evening, Board Member Joann Guzzi will share a short reading from her brand-new book chronicling the rich history of Deertrees Theatre. The gallery exhibit is curated by local painter Teresa Pattle. A perfect social kickoff to the 2026 summer season—beautiful art, lively music, and great company under one welcoming roof.

Annie is the classic heartwarming musical set in 1930s New York City, following the optimistic, red-headed orphan Annie as she escapes a cruel orphanage run by Miss Hannigan, navigates adventures in the city, and finds a new, loving family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, all while holding onto hope for a better tomorrow with memorable songs like “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard-Knock Life”. Deertrees is proud to honor our history by bringing you this timeless musical composed by Charles Strouse, who appeared at Deertrees. In 1977, Strouse adapted the popular comic strip for the stage, creating the hit Annie, which included the song “Tomorrow,” which quickly became a “monstrous song hit,” and garnered him his third Tony Award and two Grammy Awards! bring the entire family for this special show! Directed by Hannah-Jo Weisberg with Music Direction by Mary Bastoni.

The new Deertrees Youth Camp will present Disney’s The Lion King JR. as part of our 90th season. This timeless musical tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. It features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” Music and Lyrics by Elton John & Tim Rice.
